Ashington FC – already rocked by the departures of club captain Craig Scott and utility player Dale Pearson to Newcastle Benfield - have been dealt another blow as Luke Salmon has joined fellow Ebac Northern League club Whitley Bay.
The full back or left sided midfielder has opted to link up with his home town club and the Seahorses unveiled him as their first new signing of the summer on Monday. Woodhorn Lane manager Steve Bowey said: “I wanted to keep Luke so naturally I’m disappointed to see him go. Whitley Bay is his home town club and the lad played for Whitley Bay Boys club earlier in his career so it was a great opportunity for him to return home. He lives two minutes from the ground and the fact that he’s a Whitley Bay lad through and through proved to be the key factor. I wish him well.”
