Ashington AFC Christmas Update Ashington AFC Christmas Update

As we come to the end of 2020 now is a good opportunity to update everyone with the progress and current position at the Football Club.

Like most other parts of our lives this year, activity at the Club has been very stop start - both on and off the pitch due to the pandemic.

Following the tough period early in the year we were delighted to be able to open up our club and welcome back fans to games in September, it was great to see friendly faces back in the ground and clubhouse. We had a large uptake in season tickets this year and we now have 150 Season ticket holders - superb support that we very much appreciate. We have also increased sponsorship and thank all of our sponsors for their fantastic support, especially in these uncertain economic times.

On the field we built a promising young side over the summer that produced some good results leaving us in a steady position when the second lockdown hit in October. Our reserves gained a deserved promotion last season but are finding life tough so far, but there is still a long way to go in the season. Our Junior teams are back underway once again but are very much interrupted by COVID-19.

Off the pitch as it stands right now Ashington Football Club is in as healthy as a position as can be expected in the circumstances. We are once again in 'shutdown mode‘ and following a consultation with the Northern League last week it was agreed that the season be suspended until January 9th at earliest due to tier 3 restrictions placed on clubs. Whilst we want to get football back underway and see fans back in the ground it has to be safe and at the same time viable for clubs like ours to operate.

We have made great progress in the last two years to stabilise and improve this football club. Our financial results at last year end were encouraging and 2021 will hopefully see us continue this upward trend. I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come. I speak for all at the club when I say we won’t stop working hard to be the best we can be!

On behalf of the Directors and Board I would like to wish our sponsors, supporters, staff, players, parents and volunteers a safe and enjoyable Christmas and Best Wishes for 2021.
