Ashington AFC unveil new club crest Ashington AFC unveil new club crest

Ashington AFC are proud to reveal a new crest for the club as we enter a new era in our history.

The launch of the crest comes following a period of consultation and examination to create an identity that represents the Club, Town and wider community with distinction and pride.

Why make the change?

The Football Club is currently going through a period of progressive change and after heavy consideration it was decided that now was the right time in the clubs history to update and modernise the crest. The current version has been in use since the early 1970’s

The historical fundamentals of the original crest remain with the lions flanking a subtle shield that contains an ‘A’ stylised incorporating the Davy Lamp, an important part of the towns past which lit the way for thousands of workers including many of our family members underground in the collieries. This represents a sense of pride for Ashington. It also incorporates the football from the previous version as part of the base of the lamp.

Chairman Brian Shotton - “You always approach a major change like this with some trepidation. Our crest has been the mainstay at the club in the last 50 years or so and it is always a brave move to launch a new one. We have given heavy consideration to our current crest and kept the historical fundamental aspects but incorporated the Miners Lamp in the ‘A’ which represents so many of our fore-bearers in the town. It’s an exciting time for the club and this is a further step of moving us forward in a positive direction.”

The process of replacing the crest signage across Woodhorn Lane has begun and a gradual change over a period with kit, training wear at senior / junior level and club merchandise will follow.

The club would like to thank Lookers Autographics for their excellent work and support in the crest design.
