One of Ashington FC’s newest acquisitions, teenager Brandon Slater says he is ‘buzzing’ with his football at the moment – but admitted that he is desperate to score his first goal for the club since signing from Billingham Synthonia at the end of November: “I had had a good run of games for the Synners and was told Ashington had put seven days in for me and I was over the moon,” he commented, “I put pen to paper on the transfer and am buzzing because I’m loving it at the club. The training is good, there is a good group of lads and it just shows when we work as a team we can pull off any result. We are having a good run and have got to be looking forward to the back to back away games against Consett and Stockton.”

The 19 year old added: “I know I’ve got to work hard because I’m looking to cement my place in the team but I need to get a goal. I’ve missed a few chances in the past few games and early in the match today (against West Auckland), I hit the post. If that had gone in, it would have been the icing on the cake for me. I thought we deserved to win but I’m happy that we have taken a point from West Auckland.”
