BRIAN SHOTTON: “SUPPORT FROM FANS HAS BLOWN ME AWAY”
By Brian Bennett
Ashington FC chairman Brian Shotton sent out a message of heartfelt thanks to supporters of the Woodhorn Lane outfit after admitting to being ‘blown away’ by their commitment and generosity.
In the original list of fixtures, the Colliers were scheduled to bring the curtain down on their season on Saturday with a visit from Consett but in the middle of last month and with the Wansbeck side sitting in mid table with nine games remaining, the Football Association made the decision – which has since been ratified - to bring the campaign to a premature end due to the lethal coronavirus pandemic. However, in what are extremely difficult times, Mr Shotton applauded supporters who have already pledged to buy a season ticket for the 2020/21 season and/or who have made a donation to the club. “I have been blown away by our fans,” said Mr Shotton at the weekend, “Through advance season ticket sales so far we have broken through the £2,000 barrier and donations to the club are at £600. That is truly amazing and I cannot thank them enough and to add to that good news, two local firms – MJ Sport and Advance Garage Equipment - have also renewed their advertising boards for which we are entirely grateful. This is alongside the continuing support from our all of our sponsors who have supported the club for many years.”
Meanwhile Ashington’s chairman along with manager Ian Skinner participated in an hour long ‘Questions and answers’ session with fans on social media at the weekend: “It was very successful,” added Mr Shotton, “So much so that we are looking to host another Q & A in around a month’s time.”
