Ashington FC manager Ian Skinner – who saw several payers put pen to paper last week – described his sides group of opening fixtures in the first division of the Ebac Northern League as being ‘tough.’
The Colliers are scheduled to play four out of their first half dozen matches away, kicking off on Saturday August 3 with a trip to face Hebburn Town who finished runners up last term before they take on West Auckland at Woodhorn Lane on Tuesday August 6. Away trips against Seaham Red Star, newly promoted Billingham Town and Bishop Auckland then follow with a local clash at home to rivals Whitley Bay on Tuesday August 20. Skinner said: “It’s a tough start and our preparations will have to be spot on but it is a well worn cliché that, there are no easy fixtures in this division. However I’m disappointed that we do not have a scheduled Saturday league game on home turf until September - unless we get the luck of the draw in the early stages of the FA Cup.”
Meanwhile after Callum Johnston and Karl Ross signed a couple of weeks ago, Skinner was busy last week as he secured the services of Ian Herron, Stephen Gibson and Dylan Williamson (all ex Bedlington), David Luke (Ryton & Crawcrook Albion’s Player of the Year last season), Dan Taggart (formerly with North Shields and Whitley Bay) and Dan O’Reilly (Consett).
