Ashington picked up a double award at the Ebac Northern League dinner at Ramside Hall recently. The Woodhorn Lane outfit finished third bottom last term but with no relegation, will again be in the first division for the impending 2019/20 season which begins on August 3.
However, the Wansbeck club had the unique distinction of picking up the Respect Award which is focussed on specific cautions and dismissals for dissent as they went through the whole campaign without incurring a single point - and were the only club to do so. Similarly, impeccable administration by Colliers football secretary Gav Perry ensured that the club also went through last season without picking up a penalty and were one of 20 clubs who will receive £300 worth of equipment as a reward.
A spokesperson for the Colliers said: “As a club, we have had a tough year and so understandably it was nice to be able to collect the two awards.”
