Ashington FC secretary Gav Perry has spoken of his delight after being elected onto the management committee of the Ebac Northern League.
The Colliers joined the Northern League in 1971 and Gav becomes the first ever representative from the club to serve on the League Management Committee. The league which was founded in 1889 and is the second oldest in the footballing world held their Annual General Meeting at Alnwick Castle on Saturday when Ashington-born Gav got the nod ahead of Tow Law Town secretary Steve Moralee. He said: “It is an honour to be voted onto the LMC by the fellow member clubs of the league. It’s the second time I have stood after being unsuccessful last season and I hope I can bring a new perspective to the existing members.”
The 29 year old - an operational support manager for a health care regulator – added: “Personally I’d like to thank Steve (Moralee) for the time he has served on the committee. Unfortunately he is the one who has made way to give me the opportunity and I’m looking forward to the new challenge.”
