Ashington FC manager Ian Skinner handed debuts to Marcus Giles and Jack Desmond at Penrith on Saturday.
Despite the 3-0 defeat in Cumbria, the boss revealed that both players ought to be satisfied with their performances: “Marcus (Giles) had a couple of chances in the first ten minutes,” said Skinner, “He managed to get one v one against the centre back and beat his man; had a couple of decent efforts which he hit straight at the goalkeeper and then he has had a great little run late in the second half and from a tight angle he’s tried to bend the ball into the far corner and it has hit the bar. What we have got to remember is that he is only 19 years old.”
He continued: “Jack (Desmond) has come up from the reserves. I’ve watched him and what I like about him is he wears his heart on his sleeve and what you see is what you get and he most definitely puts a shift in. He works hard both in and out of possession and that’s something you cannot question.”
