Ashington FC manager Steve Harmison will roll out the red carpet on Tuesday night (March 14) when neighbours Whitley Bay arrive at Woodhorn Lane for the second Ebac Northern League first division clash between the clubs this season. Harmison said: “It will be good to see some familiar faces. We played against their ‘A’ side a few weeks ago in a friendly and obviously their management team of Marc Nash, Anthony Woodhouse and Chris Moore all played during their careers for Ashington. Whitley Bay won the FA Vase three times in consecutive years and have been at the top end of the table whilst we are a club whose only success was clinching the Northumberland Senior Cup at the end of the 2012/13 campaign. However Whitley Bay are a little bit like ourselves and Dunston now and are trying to build something and the one thing which Marc, Anthony and Chris possess is having a very good feeder section for their first team.” Ashington came away with a terrific 5-1 victory at Hillheads in mid September: “We comprehensively beat them on that night but they are a different team now,” said Harmison, “They have done well to get to where they are but we are ready for them and it’s important that we get a good result because they are around us in the league table. Fingers crossed it should be a good yet tough game - because it always is. Last year both duels in the league were excellent. The wind spoilt the one at Ashington which we won 4-3 and it was a fantastic game at Hillheads which we edged 2-1.” Kick off on Tuesday is 7.30pm.
