Ashington FC chairman Brian Shotton: “It’s been a good initiative and I’d like to think it will work even more so next year”

Ashington FC chairman Brian Shotton has hailed the success of a new initiative - after dwmedia became the first-ever company to have naming rights at the Stadium at Woodhorn Lane: “It was an idea between commercial manager Keith Belfield and myself – and we thought it was something different,” said Mr Shotton, “Obviously with the current situation (covid-19) we were unable to have a full event with regard to the sponsors but we carried it out via a random number draw. We listed all of the sponsors –who had a number - and dwmedia came out. The sponsorship boards were sold on the basis of having an entry into a stadium naming raffle which is quite a big thing really especially with the coverage the club receives and I’m delighted for Daniel at dwmedia. Hopefully it will help him and I’m looking forward to working with him. The naming rights are for one year so hopefully we’ll be looking to do the same thing next year. People will see that it works and as a club we know we can ‘sell’ it. It’s been a good initiative and I’d like to think it will work even more so next year. There were lots of entries with various different sponsorship packages - but the luck of the draw saw dwmedia come out.”

He continued: “I think in today’s world, you’ve got to move with the times and commercial revenue is vital for clubs like us and I would like to thank all our valuable sponsors for their support in what are difficult times.“
