Ashington’s away tie against Nelson in the Buildbase FA Vase was called off on Saturday morning as the ground at Victoria Park was waterlogged.
With rain forecast in the hours ahead of the game, Colliers football secretary Gav Perry was ready and prepared for any communication from the Lancashire outfit surrounding the game – and clearly with surface water on the pitch, the thumbs down verdict was a mere formality when it came.
Following negotiations between the two clubs, the match - in the second qualifying round - has been rescheduled for this coming Saturday (October 17).
Meanwhile once the decision was made - and with the Wansbeck side due to make the short journey to face Whitley Bay at Hillheads on Tuesday night - Ashington manager Ian Skinner held a light training session for his squad: “I had given the players Thursday night off so we had them in for a short time,” said Skinner who revealed that Jack Butler and Ben Sampson - who were injury concerns for the Vase tie - both participated in the session.
Following the draw for the First Round proper of the Buildbase FA Vase on Monday, the winner at Victoria Park on Saturday will travel to face Charnock Richard on Saturday 31st October.
